Equipment And Technology Library

Cerebral Palsy Tasmania's  Equipment and Technology Library lends items of equipment and technology to schools attended by students with disability. This state wide service to the government, catholic and independent school sectors began in 1991, supporting the inclusion of students with disability, and helping them access education programs.

While lending equipment and technology for use in schools is the service's primary business, it also provides: telephone advisory service, workshops and training sessions, regional visits, product research and review, and a tri-annual newsletter.

Staffing in the Library comprises a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and support staff providing the equipment service, and an education/IT officer and support staff member working in the technology area.

Equipment is available to any student (0-18 years) attending an education based program, with priority given to those who have the highest levels of physical or multiple disability. Equipment is supplied on the basis of a request received from the student's local occupational therapist or physiotherapist. Supply may often follow an extensive period of consultation with Library staff, and trial. Equipment may require modification to suit individual students.

Technology, on the other hand, is supplied to students (0-18 years) with the highest levels of physical and multiple disability only, as defined by the Department of Education. Students with other disability are assisted through alternative sources established by the Department of Education. Technology requests are received from teachers, district education staff and therapists, and reflect a team assessment process.

Equipment loaned includes: lying positioners, standing/walking equipment, toilet chairs, change tables, lifting/transferring equipment, seating, equipment and strollers.

Technology loaned includes: computer hardware, software, peripherals and furniture.
